After a substantial recruitment process completed by the Chief Administrative Officer Selection Committee with the support and assistance of the City’s Human Resource Department, City Council has voted to appoint Malcolm White as the next CAO of the Corporation of the City of Sault Ste. Marie.

“I want to thank Councillor Niro and Councillor Hilsinger for serving on the CAO Selection Committee with me and for their great work,” said Mayor Christian Provenzano. “We completed a substantive recruitment process and we are confident in its result. Mr. White brings decades of municipal government experience and executive management leadership to the position of CAO. As a long-time employee of the City of Sault Ste. Marie, he has extensive knowledge of the Corporation and community, along with the challenges and opportunities facing both.”

Malcolm White is a long-term employee of the City of Sault Ste. Marie, having been hired in 1988 as the Recreation Assistant – Sports/Events/Development.

His successive roles include Deputy City Clerk & Manager of Quality Improvement, City Clerk and, most recently, Deputy CAO / City Clerk – Corporate Services.

“I am both honoured and humbled to be selected as the next CAO for the City of Sault Ste. Marie. I was very fortunate to return to Sault Ste. Marie after obtaining my degree and to live in my community of choice as I pursued a career and raised a family. I am looking forward to working with Mayor Provenzano and City Council, City staff and the community as we work together in building the next chapter in our city’s development.”

Mr. White is a graduate of Laurentian University where he obtained a Bachelor of Physical and Health Education. He holds a Certified Municipal Officer (CMO) designation from AMCTO and has participated in many AMCTO committees and project teams, as well as teaching the Municipal Administration Program.

He is the proud husband of Donna (nee Della Costanza) and father of Alicia and Matthew.
