Charges laid in Highway 17 crash

FENWICK TOWNSHIP – On Thursday July 3, 2014 at approximately 12 p.m., Sault Ste Marie Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 in Goulais River, Ontario.

As a result of this collision, the driver did not sustain any injuries; however, the 60-year-old female passenger was ejected from the vehicle and had to be airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries.

The other passenger sustained minor injuries.

The driver, Francisco MARQUES, 52, of Sault Ste Marie has been charged with Careless Driving as per section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act. 

He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste Marie on September 10, 2014.

The OPP remind the motoring public that the law requires that every occupant of a motor vehicle must wear a seatbelt.
