The Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce is distributing a 'fair exchange' wheel to advise U.S. visitors of the buying power of their currency.

The new point-of-purchase tool (shown to us by Shelley Barich of the Chamber's membership staff) displays the fair value of a U.S. dollar in Canadian currency.

Retailers are asked to check the fair exchange rate published by the Chamber daily in the Sault Star, and to set the wheel accordingly.

On Friday, U.S. dollars were worth $1.50 Canadian at participating stores.

Bell Canada sponsored production of the counter-top wheels, which will be distributed to local businesses next week.

Chamber president Gary Dumanski said the new wheels will raise awareness among Americans of the lucrative buying power they wield while visiting Canada.

We're the little wheels of Sault journalism, but we're unfailingly fair
