SAULT STE. MARIE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

The Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce will turn 130 years old on Tuesday June 25. To celebrate, the organization will host a special 130th business luncheon and will launch its new website.

The Chamber’s anniversary luncheon will be hosted at the Marconi Event Centre on June 25 and will feature a special keynote presentation by Michael McQuade, CEO of Algoma Steel Inc. McQuade took over the role of CEO at the local steel producer in March of this year, and the June 25 luncheon will offer an opportunity for the local business community to hear directly from McQuade on the future direction of Algoma Steel.

Don Mitchell, President of the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce suggests that while the Chamber is celebrating 130 years of history, its focus is very squarely on the future. “The Chamber has a very exciting history in Sault Ste. Marie. In fact, I suspect that many people would be surprised to find out just how intrinsic a role the organization played in some of the city’s key historical moments and how many of the local events and festivals that we enjoy today were originally undertaken by the Chamber,” says Mitchell.

He continues, noting that “the past is the past however, and like Algoma Steel - which also has an incredible local history – it is our future that drives us and that is where we are looking.”

During the luncheon, the Chamber will recognize a number of its member businesses that it is refers to as its ‘Century Club’ – a group of local businesses and agencies that have all surpassed the 100-year mark. Algoma Steel, itself a member of the ‘Century Club’ is partnering with the Chamber to host a number of these special guests.

As part of the 130th celebration, and with eyes on where it will be heading next, the Chamber also plans to re-launch its website. The new site will offer a wide range of features for members, including new opportunities to extend special deals to customers and fellow Chamber members, as well as the ability to build-out a significant online presence on the Chamber site.

Tickets for the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce 130th Anniversary Luncheon can be booked online.
