On Tuesday, 349 young skaters from all over Sault Ste. Marie and area raised $43,270.25 for Rotary Youth Projects at the Bell Celebrity Skate presented by Agero. Past Rotary Youth Projects include the Rotary Adventure Playground at Bellevue Park and supporting Easter Seals kids.

This year’s top individual fundraiser was Joshua Hales, who raised $1,344.35 and won a Samsung Galaxy E tablet.

“What a great night, participants had a blast, the Greyhounds and Coaching staff were excellent,” shared event co-chair Jon Lang. “Thanks to all the volunteers who made this fantastic event possible for another year. Great job by the Rotary club on another successful year.”

“The highlight of my evening is to see participants have a chance to skate with their heroes, the Soo Greyhounds,” said Rodger Rosset, event co-chair.  “It is a win-win situation for the teams who are able to use the event as a fundraiser, and for our community that benefits from Rotary’s projects and charitable giving.”

Easter Seals families were invited to attend, and our local Easter Seals Ambassador Isobel Farstad took part in the opening ceremonies.

The Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie has been an active part of the community since 1918. Its primary charitable mandate is to offer support to children with physical disabilities.

This is done in close partnership with Easter Seals Ontario through fundraising projects such as the Rotaryfest Take Your Pick Car Draw, Snowarama, TD Canada Trust Change for Change in the Lives of Easter Seals Kids, Easter Seals Telethon, and Battle of the Sections.

The Club also supports community-building events like Rotaryfest the Sault’s Summer Festival, Student Exchange programs, Rotary Science Fair - Algoma presented by Tenaris, and the Sault Ste. Marie Sports Awards dinner.
