Catherine O’Donnell, owner/operator of Catherine’s Hairstyling and Barbershop, along with her staff, dedicated their time and skill to a very good cause Saturday.

Catherine (pictured with customer Jennifer Noel) held her sixth annual Kutz for Kidneys fundraiser at her salon at 373 McNabb Street.

Each year, 100 percent of the funds raised from haircuts and styling at the Kutz for Kidneys fundraiser goes to the local branch of the Kidney Foundation of Canada.

Catherine holds the Kutz for Kidneys fundraiser every March, which is the Kidney Foundation of Canada’s Kidney Health Month.

Over $1400 was raised last year.

Catherine and her staff wore green shirts Saturday, green being the colour of organ and tissue donor awareness, as many kidney disease patients undergo necessary kidney transplants.

Campaign Coordinator Penny Marquis of the Sault Ste. Marie Kidney Foundation of Canada office told SooToday.com: “When people like Catherine and her staff do these fundraisers for us, it’s not only a donation to the Kidney Foundation, but also awareness of the Kidney Foundation, so we’re very, very grateful for these events.”

As for kidney disease, Marquis said ongoing research has led to longer life expectancy for kidney disease patients and that dialysis treatments are shorter than they were at one time.

Anyone wishing to make a donation to the Kidney Foundation of Canada may call Penny Marquis or Campaign Assistant Marilyn MacBeth at the local Kidney Foundation of Canada office at 705-949-0400.

The next major fundraiser for the Kidney Foundation of Canada will be its Kidney Walk in September.
