Students treated to breakfast at St. Mary’s College for their fundraising work in this year’s Heaven Cent campaign

St. Mary’s College principals and teachers treated their students to a pancake and sausage breakfast Friday in gratitude for the role they played in the 2017 Heaven Cent campaign.

Several fundraising activities were held by students in this year’s campaign.

Christopher Czop, St. Mary’s College vice principal, told SooToday approximately $15,000 had been raised as of Thursday, with $11,000 given to local charities so far.

Those charitable places and causes include:

  • Women in Crisis
  • Pauline’s Place
  • Metis Nation of Ontario
  • Thrive Child Development Centre
  • Pregnancy Centre
  • The Algoma Autism Foundation
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Soup Kitchen
  • St. Vincent’s Place
  • Breton House
  • Breaking AwayYMCA student/family membership subsidy
  • Elks Oncology Van

Heaven Cent, originally known as ‘Pennies from Heaven,’ was launched two decades ago by the late Robert Denham, a H-SCDSB educator, and has raised over $250,000 for the community in that period of time.
