Gino Coccimiglio and his brother Rick are looking forward to carrying on the family business after purchasing Gino's Family Restaurant at 1076 Great Northern Road.

The brothers have bought the business from their mother Maria, who established the restaurant in 1985 with her husband Gino (now deceased).

"We're going to continue our Italian and Canadian cuisine with big portions at very affordable pricing, and our own butcher shop where we cut our steaks and hamburgers in-house . . . we didn't do a lot of our own meat-cutting, but now I want to get back into it," Coccimiglio told SooToday.

"We're also going to be revamping the outside of the restaurant to modernize it a little bit, as well as the decor inside."

The renovations will not interfere with the restaurant's operations, Coccimiglio said.

Hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Gino said he and Rick will also soon be establishing a faster, express takeout at the restaurant.

"We're located in a big industrial area here on Great Northern Road, so we want to try and cater to the workers on Great Northern for a quick lunch, whether it's in-house or takeout."

Gino said his mother Maria will be semi-retired, but still interact with customers.

"It feels good to carry on the legacy my father started, my brother and I are really proud of it," Coccimiglio said.
