Bondar Place jammed with gifts (3 photos)

The Bondar Place lobby was packed with presents during the annual Christmas Cheer event

The lobby at Bondar Place was jammed with gifts destined for the Christmas Cheer depot as Ontario Public Service (OPS) employees from across the city gathered for their annual donation event.

Event spokesperson Leigh Powley said her favourite part of Ontario Public Service Gives Back: Annual Christmas Cheer Event is the kinship it fosters among the employees and throughout the participating ministries.

“From tree-trimmers to toy-drivers, musicians to maintenance, creators to Santa and many, many more, we really couldn’t do this without you,” she said during her address.

“I can’t think of a better way to launch into December and the festive season than by sharing what we have with others in the true spirit of giving,” said Helen Mulc, assistant deputy minister, Northern Development Division at Ministry of Northern Development and Mines.

“I’d like to extend a special thanks to the many volunteers that contributed towards making today’s event happen. It’s great to see Sault Ste. Marie OPSers across the number of ministries come together to give back to the community,” she continued. “Most importantly, your generosity is seen not only during the holiday season, but throughout the entire year. You give back to your community and to your province through your charitable donations to the many great organizations that we see.”

Participating agencies include the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development, the Ministry of the Attorney General, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines, and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp.

“Your kindness is admirable, and the positive impact your efforts have on this community resonates all year long,” Mulc said.

The Christmas Cheer hamper application deadline is Wednesday, Dec. 7, and the scheduled delivery date is Tuesday, Dec. 20.
