The deceased woman whose body was located in the back of a U-Haul rental truck by city police on Saturday has been positively identified as Beata Paciorek, 35, of Brampton, say Peel Police.

Two people, Amy MacDonald and Mike Madill – both of no fixed address –  were both arrested in Sault Ste. Marie and charged with first degree murder.

The accused are currently being held in custody in the Sault until their bail hearings on May 29.

Const. Lori Murphy of Peel regional police said that on Friday Peel police received a call from Paciorek’s family who were concerned that she was “missing for some time and that they were trying to get a hold of her” but could not.

On that day, Peel’s 12th Division Criminal Investigation Bureau began looking into her disappearance and “from that investigation, movements, and witness accounts (they became) concerned about what was happening and they called upon the Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau” who “took over the investigation in the early morning hours of Saturday May 20,” said Murphy.

Police believed that at some point Paciorek was "in the accompaniment of several parties" headed into the Greater Sudbury area in a U-Haul rental truck but it has not been released where or under what circumstances this occurred.

"Witness information has led investigators to the belief that Paciorek was murdered somewhere during her travels between Brampton and the Greater Sudbury area after an altercation at the roadside of a highway," said a Peel Regional Police press release.

“I can’t speak to a motive,” said Murphy. “I can tell you that there was an altercation, as a result of that altercation, the victim succumbed to injuries that were fatal.”

Once first-degree murder charges were laid, Peel Regional Police contacted Sault Ste. Marie Police Service for assistance in making the arrests.

It was not released how police knew the suspects were in the Sault area.

"Police officers on duty had an idea of where to find the suspects and were keen to arrest them when local police received information about them from Peel,” said local police Const. Sonny Spina.

In Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday, just after 7 p.m. and under the direction of Peel police, local officers arrested MacDonald and Madill on the charges of first degree murder.

During the subsequent investigation on Sunday, Paciorek’s body was discovered by Sault Police in the rear compartment of a U-Haul truck, say Peel Police.

“We don’t know why they were (in the location where they were arrested) yet. That’s still under investigation,” said Murphy.

Peel regional police said the body was processed forensically and positively identified as that of Paciorek and that next of kin were notified.

Murphy said there is still forensic work being conducted.

MacDonald and Madill are to remain in the Sault until their bail hearings, said Murphy.

There are no other suspects being sought by police said Murphy.

At this time, police have released no other information regarding how or where Paciorek died, or whether there was a weapon involved.

Although there are not many details at this time, Murphy put a call out to the public to come forward if they have more information regarding the alleged murder.

“Any information that might assist investigators like witness accounts to attest to movements of this vehicle or the victim during the course of this travel, (or) any information that could be provided to investigators could be very helpful,” said Murphy who added tips should be directed to the Peel Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau.

The original missing persons press release gave the following description of the deceased:

Beata Paciorek is described as female white, 5’4” feet tall, 110 pounds, slim build, blonde hair below the shoulder, and with green eyes. Beata Paciorek was last seen wearing dark grey pants, pink and grey ‘Nike’ running shoes and a red and white varsity jacket with the letter ‘B’ on the front.

Police put out the following message:

Anyone with information pertaining to the case are asked to call investigators at the Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau at (905) 453–2121, ext. 3205.  Information may also be left anonymously by calling Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), visiting www.peelcrimestoppers.ca or by sending a text message to CRIMES (274637) with the word “PEEL” and then your tip.
