A body discovered today off Georgina Island on Lake Simcoe has been identified as Batchewana-raised Gary Corbiere.

Workers at the Virginia Beach Marina called police around 10:20 a.m. to report they'd found the 41-year-old lawyer between Georgina Island and Duclos Point.

Police recovered the body around 11:45 a.m. and disclosed tonight that it had been identified as Corbiere, whose five-metre fiberglass Sea Doo jet boat was found Sunday night washed ashore at Duclos Point.

Corbiere is father to two young girls.

His death was one of three fatalities on Lake Simcoe over the weekend.

Foul play is not suspected in Corebiere's death, police sources tell SooToday.com.

Gary Corbiere was a son of John Corbiere, who served as chief of Batchewana First Nation of Ojibways from December 12, 1994 to December 11, 1996.

He was involved as a lawyer in the Corbiere Decision, a landmark case in constitutional law heard by the Supreme Court of Canada.
