Bob ups the ante, challenges Easter Seals Ontario CEO to raise 'more funds than ever' at Snowarama

CEO of Easter Seals Ontario, Kevin Collins has accepted the fundraising challenge of Bob Carricato, President of the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie. Collins will come to the Sault to join the Rotary club and over 80 local snowmobilers as they raise money for Easter Seals kids at Snowarama on Feb. 9.

“It popped into my head that since this event raises tens of thousands of dollars for Easter Seals every year, I would challenge the CEO of Easter Seals Ontario and try to raise more funds than ever for kids with physical disabilities in Ontario,” shared President Carricato, who met Collins in November. “There is no personal reward from this friendly rivalry for either of us. The reward for us will be an example to others of pushing our limits for the benefit of youth.”

Carricato has volunteered at Snowarama before as a Rotarian, but this will be his first year riding the 160 km route as is tradition for each year’s Rotary Club President.

In addition to his formal role as CEO, Kevin Collins is also a past Easter Seals Provincial Ambassador “Timmy” (1976). He was born with cerebral palsy and uses a walker for mobility, “I look forward to meeting the challenge of Rotary Club President Robert Carricato, riding in this year’s event and to raise funds to help children and youth with physical disabilities.”

This year’s Snowarama has two ride options: one from Bruce Mines on Feb. 2 and one from Sault Ste. Marie on Feb. 9. Both rides include a free breakfast, free lunch, access to the trails for those who do not own a trail pass, up to $25 worth of gas, and a prize draw with multiple prizes donated by many local businesses.

Easter Seals provides financial assistance for mobility equipment, communication devices and summer camp opportunities at its two properties, Camp Merrywood and Camp Woodeden. Together we are helping kids be kids.
