Blind River to get a new school

Algoma District School Board announced today that funding for a new school in Blind River has been approved.

"The Algoma District School Board (ADSB) and the Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario (CSPGNO) have received approval from the Ministry of Education to proceed with building a new, JK-12 school in Blind River, Ont., in which students from both Boards (ADSB K-12 and CSPGNO K-8) will share the school space," said a release from the board late Friday afternoon. 

The two boards have been working together with the Ontario Ministry of Education to find a way to build a new school since 2017 and they will continue to collaborate after the school is built.

They plan to share space and to collaborate on program delivery and learning opportunities, too.

The Township of Blind River is working with the boards to finalize options for the selection of property and architects. 

The design will include a child care centre as well as an Early ON Child and Family Centre within the school and Integrated Design Engineering-Architecture (IDEA), has been retained to create a school.

Students at both existing schools, as well as their families, will be kept informed on location selection, as well as design and construction progress, said Lucia Reece, ADSB’s Director of Education.

"We are committed to keeping the school communities informed throughout this process, as both schools will remain open until the new school is ready to safely transition students,” she added.
