SEWAGE DISCHARGE TO THE ST. MARY'S RIVER

Due to the prolonged power blackout on August 14, and 15, 2003, sewage may have by-passed the normal collection and treatment systems and may be discharged to the St. Mary’s River through the City of Sault Ste Marie storm sewer system.

Persons using the St. Mary’s River are advised to avoid contact with the river water after heavy rainfalls due to the flushing of the storm sewers and the potential, over the next few days, for sewage discharges from the sanitary sewers or treatment systems.
