Black smoke seen rising from west end (update)

The industrial fire was not deemed suspicious

Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services Platoon Chief Stan Martynuck told SooToday that an industrial fire in the 100 block of Yates Avenue was reported at 2:20 p.m. today.

The electrical fire started in an industrial shredder used to process vehicles into scrap metal.

A total of 19 firefighters responded to the call, including Fire Prevention Officer Dan Fraser who investigated the blaze.

The fire was called under control at 3:05 p.m.

No injuries were reported and the fire was not deemed suspicious.

Firefighters are responding to what appears to be an industrial fire in the west end. 

Thick black smoke can be seen rising from the area of the south end of Allen's Side Road in a submitted video.
