Greenbelt Bingo has joined forces with government gaming associations to create a bigger, better bingo starting Saturday.

In a long-waited move, provincial gaming authorities are now partnering with the local bingo hall to bring bigger prizes and more variety of games.

Greenbelt and the charities it supports have been struggling since non-smoking rules came into effect.

Greenbelt Charities Association President Scott Reid (shown) hopes this new partnership will revitalize the Sault's charity bingo operation.

He sent us the following release:

***************** Greenbelt Bingo Expands

The Greenbelt Charities Association has entered into a partnership agreement with the Ontario Charitable Gaming Association (OCGA) and the Ontario Lottery & Gaming Corporation (OLGC) to play BIG LINK BINGO at the Greenbelt Bingo Hall starting Saturday, March 25.

There are three different games played each day which link halls from across the province together to play for much larger prizes.

The LINK will be played at all 1 p.m. sessions, the Ultimate Link will be played at the 7:30 p.m. sessions and the Late Link will be played at the 10 p.m. sessions.

The Big Link game was developed by OLGC and OCGA and is played though out the province at participating bingo halls.

The game is managed and controlled by OLGC staff right here in Sault Ste. Marie.

This game is not available to other bingo halls in the area and will serve as a drawing card to bring Greenbelt customers back.

In the last several days a single prize of over $140,000 has been awarded and in the past there have been prizes over $300,000.

The OLGC and OCGA have to be commended for the development of this game which will allow local charitable groups to raise the money needed to keep their programs alive.

This is the first step in Greenbelt Charities Associations game plan to revitalize the bingo industry after the non smoking bylaw came into effect.
