National Youth Arts Week in Sault Ste. Marie & District

May 1 to 7 is the second annual National Youth Arts Week celebration.
National Youth Arts Week is a Canada-wide expression of youth leadership, creativity, and participation in the community.
The week is aimed at engaging youth aged 13-30, however, the Arts Council of Sault Ste. Marie & District would like to welcome our entire community to be a part of the week.
In Sault Ste. Marie, the Arts Council of Sault Ste. Marie & District youth staff and volunteers are planning seven events to celebrate National Youth Arts Week.
It is free to participate in all events, except for the cult classic movie which costs $10 per ticket.
The events we have organized to celebrate National Youth Arts Week are as follows:
Wednesday, May 1
Opening Ceremony - 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Circle of Creative Arts.
Open Mic/Group Story
- We will gather at the Circle of Creative Arts to collaboratively weave a stories on type writers as well as listen to, read, and share our creative works.
Thursday, May 2
Cardboard Workshop - 6 to 9 p.m., Algoma Art Gallery
The NYAW “Out of the Box” workshop is an opportunity for students to learn about and share creative ideas on sustainability in the local community.
Friday, May 3
Movie Night - 6 p.m., Grand Theatre (doors open at 5:30 p.m.)
Join us as we watch a classic film, Charade (1963), starring Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn.
9:30 p.m. - Grand Theatre (doors open at 9 p.m.)
Gather as we celebrate a creative cult classic.

Tickets can be purchased at the Arts Council office for $10 in advance.
Saturday, May 4
Photography Tour - 2 until 4 p.m., Board Walk across from Station Mall.
Join in for a walking tour of the heart of Sault Ste. Marie with the eyes of some of our city's renowned photographers.
Sunday, May 5
Play Dough Sculptures & Yarn Bomb - 11 a.m.to 5 p.m., Essar Centre, Passport to Unity
Play dough sculpture competition and knitting tutorials will be held throughout the day.
5:30 p.m. Yarn Bomb - Clergue Park table and chairs
Monday, May 6
Guerilla Gardening/ Seed Bombing Workshop - 4 to 6 p.m., Algoma University's People's Garden
Algoma University's Carly Brekenridge from the People's Garden will be teaching us how to make seed bombs for all our guerilla gardening adventures.
Tuesday, May 7
Flash Mob -
7:45 p.m., Station Mall. Time Warp Flash Mob
The Arts Council of Sault Ste. Marie & District youth staff and volunteers intend for these events to allow youth to engage with various forms of artwork and demonstrate the many unique talents in our community.
These events will coincide with artistic events being planned by youth aged 13-30 throughout the country.
Nationally, this week is being organized by the Arts Network for Children and Youth.
Locally, it is being organized by the Arts Council of Sault Ste. Marie & District and supported by the Circle of Creative Arts, the Art Gallery of Algoma, the Grand Theatre, Passport to Unity, the City of Sault Ste. Marie, Algoma University's People's Garden, the Station Mall, Michaels Arts and Crafts, While You Wait magazine, Shaw TV, Metro and EZ Rock radio station.
