A Canada Day concert and fireworks display at the Voyageurs' Lodge and Cookhouse were cancelled after the event was hammered by inclement weather.

"High winds and heavy rain came in and soaked the band," lodge owner Frank O'Connor tells SooToday.

"Fireworks are postponed to next Saturday night [July 7]. Frank Deresti and the Lake Effect and Sheldon Jaaskelainen are going to reschedule for later in the summer."

Accuweather reports seven millimetres of rain hit Batchawana Bay shortly before sunset, compared to four millimetres in Sault Ste. Marie.

Heat warnings remained in effect late Sunday for Sault Ste. Marie - Superior East, Elliot Lake - Ranger Lake and Manitoulin - Blind River - Killarney.

Rainfall warnings were still in effect in Wawa - White River - Pukaskwa and Nipigon - Marathon - Superior North.
