Average home price up 44.6% over last year as Sault real estate market sees record May

The number of homes sold in the Sault area during the month of May was the highest level for any month in history, according to the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA).

Overall, the Sault Ste. Marie Real Estate Board reports that home sales were 53.8 per cent above the five-year average and 65.6 per cent above the 10-year average for the month of May.

The average price of homes sold in May 2021 was a record $286,899, rising more than 44 per cent from the year previous.

In May 2021:

  • 276 residential units were sold
  • $286,899 was the average price of homes sold
  • 343 new residential listings were posted

To compare, in May 2020:

  • 122 residential units were sold
  • $198,409 was the average price of homes sold
  • 172 new residential listings were posted

In April 2021:

  • 235 residential units were sold
  • $268,626 was the average price of homes sold
  • 294 new residential listings were posted

To compare, in April 2020:

  • 72 residential units were sold
  • $161,444 was the average price of homes sold
  • 78 new residential listings were posted
