ATV driver charged with impaired

GOULAIS TOWNSHIP -  On August 9, 2014 at approximately 7 p.m., Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol on Highway 552 when officers observed an ATV approach the highway from a west side ditch. 

The ATV had two occupants.

Both the driver and the passenger were not wearing helmets.

OPP directed the driver to pull over at which point the driver accelerated southbound at a high rate of speed.

The driver was stopped a short time later.

Joseph Roland NAULT, 55 years old of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario was arrested and charged with Driving with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. 

The accused was also charged with Drive off-road vehicle – no insurance, Fail to wear helmet, and Fail to surrender permit contrary to the Off-Road Vehicle Act of Ontario; Fail to surrender driver’s licence and Drive ATV with passenger on Schedule B highway contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on September 8, 2014.
