Arson possible cause in burnt SUV

Investigation proceeding

Police and Fire services are trying to determine whether or not an incident that left an SUV charred and melted at around 1:15 a.m. Sunday morning was arson.

The fire occurred in the parking area of auto repair business Gail Joy Investments and ended after Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services arrived on scene and put it out shortly after it happened.

Platoon Chief Jim Beach said that at 3:30 a.m. - 4 a.m.  the vehicle was towed into custody by the fire department who have placed it into a holding facility until an investigator can look at it Monday and determine the cause.

Sault Ste. Marie Police Services said that they have a detective assigned to the case and that arson is a possibility.

At the scene of the incident there was some minor damage to a telephone pole and an adjacent vehicle but those are no longer part of the investigation said Beach.
