The HSCDSB Public Speaking Competition was held last week at Holy Family Catholic School.

All the competitors brought their ‘A’ game. The audiences were spellbound not only by the speeches but by poise and confidence of the young speakers who made the judging a very difficult job. Congratulations to each and every one of the competitors, who are all winners simply by representing their schools, which they all did in a very dignified way.

A very special congratulation goes out to our finalists, who did themselves and their schools proud.

Coming in first in the Primary Division was Aliyah Flammia from St. Francis French Immersion, with her highly motivating oral on Girls Can Do Anything. Second place went to Alaina De Rubeis from St. Paul with a very humorous but oh so true expose on How Parents Embarrass You.

The competition intensified in the junior division and the judges had a very tough choice on their hands. In the end, they awarded first place to Lundyn Beaulieu from St. Basil’s, who delivered a very informative, yet personal and moving speech about Autism. A very close second place went to Louis Friscolanti from Holy Family with his oral giving us a humorous, review of a child’s perspective on Donald Trump.

The night ended with a fine representation of our youth, as competitors from the Intermediate Division took to the podium. Here too, the judges had it tough. First place was awarded to Alexa Naslovar from St. Paul, who spoke so eloquently on the art, science and skill of Public Speaking, while finishing in second place was Darshan Kasundra, whose oral, we think, was the actual prescription to true Happiness.

Well done to each and every one of you. The entire HSCDSB is proud of you, shares in your success, and wishes you many more years of successful public speaking.

An enormous thank you is sent out to our enthusiastic and dedicated judges: Mrs. Gina Greco, Sister Pat Carter, Mr. Wayne Greco, Mr. Mario Rochetta, and Mr. Paul Best. A very special thank you to Linda Legacy for all her guidance, and support in making sure everything ran smoothly. Many thanks as well to the teachers, principals and vice-principals who came out Thursday evening to support their students, your presence meant a great deal.
