Area mental health workers unanimous, join OPSEU

Mental health workers at Algoma Public Health in Sault Ste. Marie, Blind River, Elliott Lake, and Wawa have voted unanimously in favour of joining OPSEU.

“The premier has set his sights on public health, and it’s going to take a strong union to stop him. Every month we have workers joining our family and our newest members at Algoma Public Health are about to find out just how strong OPSEU is,” said OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas.

“Hearty congratulations to these workers for standing together for the care they provide and the people they serve.”

The new OPSEU members work as mental health case managers, community rehabilitation workers, addictions assessment counsellors and addictions case managers.

By joining OPSEU, they are standing up for themselves and for the people they help by giving themselves the strength and solidarity to ensure that the high-quality services and care they provide are not undermined by the amalgamations and mergers that are on the horizon.

Within OPSEU, they will join thousands of other members in OPSEU Region 6.

“Welcome to our amazing region,” said OPSEU Region 6 Vice-President Tara Maszczakiewicz. “From Marathon to Mattawa, you can count on your fellow OPSEU members to stand with you as you safeguard your jobs and your services.”
