NEWS RELEASE

CUPE LOCAL 16

**************************
Citing Tim Hudak's promise to eliminate 100,000 public sector jobs and past Liberal attacks on union rights, support workers at the Algoma District School Board, members of CUPE Local 16, today announced their decision to drop election neutrality and help elect Celia Ross, NDP candidate in Sault Ste. Marie, on June 12.

"Initially our union wasn't going to take a position on who to vote for" said CUPE Local 16 President Mike Galipeau, "but after Liberals attacking workers bargaining rights with Bill 115, and now Tim Hudak's plan to cut 100,000 jobs, we had to speak out.  Celia Ross and the NDP will respect workers' rights and protect public services, so everybody wins and that's where we're putting our trust."

CUPE Local 16 members attending a membership meeting over the weekend voted to pass a motion to endorse NDP candidate Celia Ross.

Part of the 240,000 members of  CUPE Ontario, CUPE Local 16 has approx. 200 members.
