APH reports two new COVID cases, confirms Delta variant

Algoma Public Health is reporting two new cases of COVID-19 in the Elliot Lake area.

Both new cases are self-isolating. One was exposed to the virus by close contact, while the other's exposure category is listed as unknown.

The health unit has also added the B.1.617.2 (Delta), variant of concern, first detected in India, to its list of variants of concern found in the region.

To date, APH has identified the following variants in the region:

  • B.1.1.7 (Alpha), first detected in the UK
  • B.1.617.2 (Delta), first detected in India
  • P.1 (Gamma), first detected in Brazil

Currently, there are six active cases of COVID-19 in the region. To date, 396 cases have been reported, six of which have died and 390 of which are listed as resolved.
