APH reports two deaths with COVID-19

Five people are currently in ICU, and 33 are in hospital with COVID-19

Algoma Public Health reported two deaths, three new hospitalizations and 42 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 49 people have died in the Algoma Public Health region, with 28 of those deaths occurring since the beginning of 2022.

There are 33 people in hospital with COVID-19, seven of whom were admitted due to COVID-19 related illness.

Five people are currently in ICU.

There are 373 active cases of COVID-19 in the region, down from 375 in the last report, and 44 cases were resolved.

APH conducted 414 tests since the last report with a positivity rate of 10.1 per cent.

Of those eligible, 85.3 per cent of Algoma residents have received at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
