Algoma Public Health has reported three new hospitalizations with COVID-19, one death and 72 new cases, though due to limited on who can be tested, that number may be an underestimation.

The latest death brings the total number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic to 24.

Since the last report, 72 cases have been resolved, meaning that the number of active cases stays the same at 589 in the region.

APH performed 741 tests with a 9.7 per cent positivity rate since the last report.

In the region, 82 per cent of people who are eligible to be vaccinated have received two or more doses.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
