APH reports five new COVID cases in Sault area

Algoma Public Health is reporting five new cases of COVID-19, all from the Sault area.

Cases 449 through 452 were exposed by close contact, the health unit says, while case 453's exposure category is listed as unknown.

All five new cases are self-isolating, APH says.

Unknown exposure means the person did not have recent international travel or close contact with a known confirmed case. How the person acquired the virus is not known.

Close contact means the person acquired their infection through close contact with a known confirmed case. For example, living together with a case, or spending more than 15 minutes with a case while less than two metres apart, are considered high risk close contact exposures.

Currently, there are 18 active cases in the Algoma district, with one case in a non-Algoma resident temporarily in the region.
