Algoma Public Health has reported 15 new cases of COVID-19 today, however, that total is underestimated due to limitations in who can get tested.

Of these new cases, 12 have been in close contact with a known case of COVID-19, one of those is outbreak related, the other cases are currently being investigated.

The number of people in hospital with COVID-19 has dropped by three, bringing the total to 10.

There are 637 active cases currently in the Algoma Public Health region, with 132 cases resolved since the last report.

APH conducted 51 tests since the last report, with a 29.4 per cent positivity rate.

Since the beginning of the pandemic there have been 2699 confirmed cases, 20 deaths and 219,380 tests run in the region.

Since October 1st, 2021, 72.9 per cent of hospitalizations in Algoma were in unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals, and 27.1 per cent were in fully vaccinated individuals.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
