Algoma Public Health is reporting two new COVID-19 cases in the Algoma region.

The two cases, which bring the total number of COVID cases in Algoma since the start of the pandemic to 345, are both in the Sault Ste. Marie area.

Both tested on May 7, case 344 is under the exposure category of close contact, which means the individual was infected through close contact with a known confirmed case, and case 345 is under the exposure category of unknown.

Unknown exposure means the individual did not have any recent international travel or close contact with a known confirmed case.

Both individuals are self-isolating.

There are currently 26 active cases in the region and one hospitalization.

The hospitalized individual is a non-Algoma resident who is temporarily in the region.
