APH reporting three potential COVID exposure sites, 20 new cases

Algoma Public Health is reporting three potential COVID-19 exposure sites in the Algoma region.

APH is reporting a potential high-risk exposure at Prouse Chevrolet on Great Northern Road in Sault Ste. Marie on Dec. 14 between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

Anyone who was present during that time is advised to get tested for COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status.

Anyone who is vaccinated should self-monitor for COVID signs and symptoms while anyone who is not vaccinated should self-isolate immediately.

The health unit is also reporting potential low-risk exposures at two other sites, including:

The Wellness Store on Second Line East in Sault Ste. Marie on Dec. 14 between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Heyden Restaurant on Highway 17 in the Sault on Dec. 14 between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Anyone present at either site during the listed times should self-monitor for COVID signs and symptoms for 10 days from potential exposure, self-isolate immediately and seek testing if symptoms develop.

APH is also reporting 20 new COVID cases in the region, 15 in the Sault area and five in central and east Algoma.

The exposure category for eight of the individuals remains under investigation while 10 were infected through close contact with a confirmed case and one was infected through international travel. The exposure category for the remainig individual is listed as unknown, meaning the individual did not have any recent international travel or close contact with a confirmed case.

There are currently 247 active cases in the region as of 5 p.m. Saturday and six hospitalizations.
