APH reporting three new COVID cases

Algoma Public Health is reporting three new COVID-19 cases in the region, all of which are in the Sault Ste. Marie area.

The new cases bring the total number of COVID cases in Algoma since the start of the pandemic to 341.

Case No, 339, tested on May 3, is under the exposure category of unknown, which means the individual did not have any recent international travel or close contact with a known confirmed case.

Cases 340 and 341, both tested on May 5, are under the exposure category of close contact, which means the individual was infected through close contact with a known confirmed case.

All three individuals are currently self-isolating.

There are currently 30 active cases in Algoma as of 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

There is also one hospitalization and two other hospitalizations of non-Algoma residents who are temporarily in the region.

Regions in Algoma that have reported COVID-19 cases in the past 14 days include:

  • Sault Ste. Marie and area
  • Elliot Lake and area
  • North Algoma
