APH reporting new COVID-related death, decrease in hospitalizations

The latest death brings the total to 50 in the region

Algoma Public Health is reporting one new COVID-19 death in the Algoma region, bringing the number of deaths in the region to 50 since the start of the pandemic.

Per APH policy, further details on the death were not released.

There have been 29 COVID-related deaths in the region in 2022.

The latest numbers from APH show a drop in hospitalized patients with confirmed COVID-19 from Thursday's update, dropping by eight to 25 on Friday.

The number of patients admitted for COVID-related reasons also dropped and is now at two, down from seven on Thursday.

Additionally, the number of ICU patients with confirmed COVID-19 is down by four to one and the number of ICU patients admitted for COVID-related reasons dropped by three to zero.

The active case count stands at 360, which is down by 13.

APH is reporting 46 new cases in the region on Friday, bringing the total to 5,522 in 2022 and 7,726 overall since the beginning of the pandemic. The number of resolved cases is up by 59 to a total of 7,366.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
