APH reporting Algoma's 18th COVID-related death, 24 new cases in the region

Algoma Public Health is reporting the region's 18th COVID-19 related death.

"It is with great sadness that today we are reporting the region’s 18th death related to COVID-19," a release from APH stated. "Out of respect for the family, no further information is being shared."

APH is also reporting 24 new COVID cases in the region, 19 in the Sault Ste. Marie area and five in central and east Algoma.

There are currently 257 active cases in the region and five hospitalizations.

Of the new cases, the source of infection for 11 was through close contact with a confirmed case while one was through international travel and one is unknown, meaning the individual did not have any recent international travel or close contact with a confirmed case.

APH is also reporting that the exposure category for 11 other individuals who tested positive remains under investigation.

There have been 1,595 COVID-19 cases in the Algoma region since the start of the pandemic.
