APH reporting Algoma's 17th COVID-related death; 12 new cases in region

Algoma Public Health is reporting Algoma's 17th death related to COVID-19.

"Out of respect for the family, no further information is being shared," a statement issued Wednesday evening by APH said.

The health unit is also reporting 12 new COVID cases in the region, 10 of which are in the Sault area while one each are being reported in the Elliot Lake area and central/east Algoma.

There are currently 262 active cases in Algoma and six hospitalizations as of 5:25 p.m. Wednesday. 

Of the new cases, six were infected through close contact with a known confirmed case, three are under the exposure category of unknown and three others remain under investigation.

Including Wednesday's newly-reported cases, there have been 1,370 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Algoma since the start of the pandemic.
