************************* PC president, party prepares to select new leader Executive meets, agrees on basic timetable
TORONTO, ON – Following the resignation of John Tory Friday, the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party executive met Friday to review the timetable to elect a new leader. “We have accomplished many important things over the past eighteen months but John Tory’s resignation means we have work to do and we need to start immediately,” said Ken Zeise. “We need to hit the ground running and get a new Leader in place by the first of July.”
Zeise recently called an emergency meeting of the executive to decide on a timeframe for the leadership conference.
Of the three choices available, spring, summer or fall, the executive voted overwhelmingly for a spring convention.
The party executive is now looking for a venue for the conference, set to be held in late June.
“We are hard at work building a team that will put on a successful leadership process,” said Zeise.
Zeise emphasized the new approach to be taken for this leadership process which will involve voting in all 107 ridings in the week leading up to the conference.
The process will be based on one member, one vote and tallied and announced at the convention.
The executive will meet again within the next two weeks to finalize the dates and rules for this leader selection process.
