In this role, Angela will lead marketing and communications activities for the SSMIC and its key focus areas, as well as manage key projects and events.

She will work to raise awareness of SSMIC’s programs, services and organizational objectives.

She will also help raise the profile of the exciting work being done in Sault Ste. Marie in the science and technology sectors.

Angela comes with more than ten years of experience in external and internal communications, public relations and marketing in both leadership and support roles.

Her diverse background in technology, healthcare, non-profit and corporate communications will support the overall effort of raising the profile of SSMIC and its clients.

“Angela’s significant experience and passion for our community makes her a great fit to lead our marketing and communication activities,” said Tom Vair, Executive Director, SSMIC. “We see tremendous opportunity for the science and technology sectors in our region and we are pleased to have Angela return to Sault Ste. Marie to join our team.”

“Being born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie and having been away for many years, I was eager to return home with a greater appreciation for what our city has to offer. We have the potential to raise our profile as a city with a promising science and technology sector that is full of budding entrepreneurs and innovative business owners,” said Angela.

Prior to joining SSMIC, Angela was manager of communications at St. Mary’s General Hospital in Kitchener, Ontario, where she led the hospital’s communications, marketing, and patient relations initiatives.

She obtained a Bachelor Honours Degree in Media, Information and Technoculture with a specialization in Media in the Public Interest from the University of Western Ontario, and a Post-Graduate Honours Certificate in Corporate Communications from Seneca College.

“I was well aware of SSMIC and its efforts to diversify the local economy and support new business development in the science and technology sectors,” continued Angela. “I am proud to be part of a team that promotes our city’s successes, with a focus on growth and potential. I look forward to working with the SSMIC team, the community, partner organizations and our local media to move forward together.”
