The Windsor Star is reporting today that Alvin Olar, president of the Sault International Youth Association, has won a $340,000 lawsuit against Laurentian University.

The court accepted Olar's argument that, when he was a high school student, Laurentian misled him about the ease with which he would be able to transfer to another university.

Olar took five years to complete what should have been a four-year program in civil engineering.

He'd been told that transfers from Laurentian's mining-oriented program to other engineering schools were "routine," but found that his courses were not accepted at other universities when he tried to transfer out after his first year.
