***************************** Algoma U hosting free anti-racism training for Sault community

Algoma University College is the site of a Three-City Anti-Racism Initiative for Northeastern Ontario.

The Communitas Canada and the Union of Ontario Indians welcomes the members of the Sault community to participate in an anti racism training session called the "Debwewin Project," the Ojibwe word for "truth."

The training sessions will encourage effective cross- cultural relationships with aboriginal communities with the goal of improving race relations in each of the three participating cities: North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie and Timmins.

The session will touch on Anishinabek history, culture, treaties, residential school issues, Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples, media stereotypes and contemporary issues.

These sessions are offered to the Sault Ste. Marie community at no cost.

There will be two sessions hosted at Algoma U:

Session 1:

When: Thursday, May 6 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Where: Algoma University Auditorium

Session 2:

When: Friday May 7, 9 a.m. to noon Where: Algoma University Auditorium
