Algoma University College (AUC) is poised to offer its first-ever masters degrees, says president Celia Ross.

The Masters Degree in Computer Game Design will actually be issued by the University of Abertay in Dundee, Scotland, but classes will be offered at the Soo campus through distance education, Ross told SooToday.com.

Before they can be issued by an Ontario university, the offshore degrees must first be approved by the Quality Assessment Board of the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.

The program will take advantage of AUC's newly acquired broadband fibre optics capability, Ross told a meeting of the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation (EDC) on Monday.

Ross got the EDC to provide a letter of support for the university's proposed Information and Communication Technology Centre, a 24,000-square-foot building that's expected to cost more than $5 million.

More information about the University of Abertay masters program in computer game design can be accessed at http://www.abertay.ac.uk.
