Algoma Public Health is reporting one new hospitalization and 61 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, though those numbers may be an underestimation due to limits on who can be tested.

There are currently 607 active cases, 21 people in hospital with COVID-19 in the APH, and 43 cases have been resolved since the last report.

APH conducted 270 tests since the last report with a 23 per cent positivity rate.

Since Oct. 1, 2021, 72.9 per cent of hospitalizations in Algoma were in unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals, and 27.1 per cent were in fully vaccinated individuals.

So far, 82.4 per cent of the eligible population, ages 5 and up, have received at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine in the region.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
