Algoma Public Health reporting region's 15th COVID-related death, 34 new cases

Algoma Public Health is reporting Algoma's 15th death related to COVID-19.

"Out of respect for the family, no further information is being shared," a statement from APH said.

There are also 34 new COVID cases in the region in the latest update, putting the number of active cases in Algoma at 306.

Among the new cases are 26 in the Sault Ste. Marie area and eight from central and east Algoma.

The exposure categories of the new cases are as follows:

  • 21 are close contacts of confirmed cases
  • five have an unknown source of infection, which means the individial did not have any recent international travel or close contact with a known confirmed case
  • eight are still being investigated to determine their source of infection

APH's system of reporting new cases no longer includes the isolation status of the new cases.

There are currently 15 hospitalizations in the region.
