May 2, 2003 - Brent St. Denis, M.P. for Algoma-Manitoulin, today announced his intention to support Paul Martin to become the next federal Liberal leader and Prime Minister of Canada.

"I believe that Paul Martin is the best choice to be the next leader of our party and our country," stated Mr. St. Denis.

"Throughout his career in politics and especially during his time as Minister of Finance, Paul has been an integral part of the success of our government," he added.

Mr. St. Denis continued by saying that Paul Martin, like his father who was a Pearson-era Cabinet Minister, has demonstrated a balanced approach to financial policy and the need to maintain a strong health and social safety net for Canadians.

The new Liberal leader will be selected at a leadership convention taking place in Toronto from November 12-15.

There are currently three declared candidates running in the leadership contest, Sheila Copps, John Manley, and Paul Martin.
