“At AFS we wanted to take our agency a step further with inclusion and diversity by engaging the community and our staff to honour LGBTQ* identities and experiences,” said Kyle Co-chair of the Family Pride event committee.
“It’s important that we have these events for people who identify as LGBTQ* to celebrate identity and existence, to feel included and to have a space that involves and represents their lives and experiences. We want to begin a tradition to continue to bust barriers for LGBTQ* to support them in their mental health, to advocate for mental health, as we are aware that violence, discrimination and oppression continue to be a concern.”
“At AFS we are working hard to build a more inclusive and diverse workplace. I applaud the AFS Inclusion and Diversity Committee on holding our first Family Pride event! It is a big and bold step for our agency and reflects or commitment to the people we serve, specifically our LGBTQ* community. We invite the community to join us in this celebration and learn more about the services we provide,” said Ali Juma, AFS CEO.
