Algoma Conservatory of Music hosts special masterclass

Algoma University’s Music Department and the Algoma Conservatory of Music are pleased to announce that renowned pianists James Anagnoson and Leslie Kinton will be giving a masterclass on January 22 at 7 p.m. at the Algoma Conservatory of Music at 75 Huron Street.

James Anagnoson and Leslie Kinton are considered one of the world’s finest piano duos.

With over 1,000 performances, the duo has played in recitals and with orchestras across North America, Europe, and Asia.

Together, they have nine acclaimed recordings, and a special release titled Stages, celebrating their 30th anniversary.

The 2016-17 season will mark their 40th anniversary playing together.

Anagnoson is the Dean of The Glenn Gould School and is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and The Juilliard School.

Kinton is a faculty member at both The Glenn Gould School and Western University.

The masterclass with Anagnoson and Kinton will feature performances by Algoma University and Algoma Conservatory students.

“It is wonderful that Algoma University Music Department student pianists will be able to benefit from their visit,” said Dr. Edward Turgeon, Director of the Music Program at Algoma U and member of renowned ensemble Duo Turgeon. “Music Department students will present both solo piano and piano four-hand duets in the masterclass. The Algoma Music Department is very grateful for another fruitful collaboration with Algoma Conservatory on this project, and we look forward to many more!”

The masterclass is open to the public and is free of charge.

The duo will perform with Algoma U’s Musicians-in-Residence, Duo Turgeon, on January 23rd at the Kiwanis Community Theatre as part of the Algoma Conservatory Concert Series. Dr. Turgeon was a student of James Anagnoson at the University of Toronto from 1983 – 1988.
