Alexander Henry and the Dunn get new principals

The Algoma District School Board tonight appointed three new principals to fill vacanies at Sir James Dunn Collegiate and Vocational Institute, Alexander Henry High School and at Central Algoma Secondary School (CASS) in Desbarats.

The Algoma District School Board tonight appointed three new principals to fill vacanies at Sir James Dunn Collegiate and Vocational Institute, Alexander Henry High School and at Central Algoma Secondary School (CASS) in Desbarats.

Appointed effective September 1 are Michael McCabe and Cheryl Smithers.

Don Ferrone will become a secondary school principal effective February 2, 2004.

Board officials did not indicate specific school assignments for the new principals because there's still time for transfers to occur.

Secondary vice principal appointments

The board also appointed three new vice principals to fill vacancies at the Dunn, White Pines Collegiate and Vocational Institute and at CASS.

Marcie Bell and Joseph Maurice will assume their new duties on September 1.

Gordon Widgett will become a vice principal on February 2.

Elementary appointments

Other new principals were approved for local elementary schools.

The appointments of Pauline Dakins, Annelise Iacoe and Chris Rous will take effect on September 1.

The Algoma District School Board is expecting principal vacancies at East View Public School, Etienne Brule Public School, Spanish Public School and at Rockhaven School for Exceptional Children in Serpent River.

Laurie Chojnowski, Debbie King and Debbie Kent will all become elementary vice principals on September 1.

Special budget meeting next week

Trustees also agreed to hold a special meeting next Tuesday to discuss preparations for next year's school board budget.

There's expected to be considerable discussion about special education programs and funding.
