Forest fire smoke has caused high levels of air pollution in the Sault area, Environment Canada says.

While areas north of the Sault, including Agawa - Lake Superior Provincial Park, Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay, and further to Wawa - Pukaskwa Park and White River - Dubreuilville, were issued air quality statements this morning, Sault Ste. Marie - St. Joseph Island were just added this afternoon.

Areas east of the Sault, including Blind River - Thessalon, Espanola - Killarney, and Elliot Lake - Ranger Lake are also impacted.

Environment Canada says poor air quality and reduced visibilities are expected, and southerly winds are expected to push the smoke northward out of the area on Wednesday.
