The long list of people mourning the weekend passing of Dr. Hui Lee includes Sault Ste. Marie's AIDS community.

"Dr. Lee was the only doctor in the Sault to deal with HIV/AIDS," says Bob Hughes, office manager and support service worker at the ACCESS AIDS Network.

"The AIDS community is suffering a great loss," Hughes tells SooToday.com. "As well, patients that are suffering with HIV/AIDS will now have to travel outside of the Sault area to receive treatment."

Dr. Lee collapsed Friday night in a change room at the Etobicoke Olympium aquatics facility after competing in the 2004 Ontario Masters Swimming Championship.

"He was an extraordinary individual," says Terry Hickingbottom, the former Saultite who now oversees the Etobicoke Olympium as Supervisor of Recreation and Facilities for the City of Toronto.

Hickingbottom tells SooToday.com that he's been hearing from his own mother and other Saultites who held Dr. Lee in high regard.
