She might be well into adulthood, but Agero Site Training Manager Bobbi-Jo Alexander still gets excited to open her stocking Christmas morning.

This is why she created the local call centre’s first ever Holiday Smile Sock Challenge.

Each site team is challenged with putting together age-appropriate Christmas stockings for boys and girls for donation to Christmas Cheer.

“Agero has a history of corporate giving within the community. We try to be good community partners,” Alexander told SooToday. “But one of the things we do above and beyond is we try to challenge our site associates with things that would be donated to the community to support local families and children.”

“These types of challenges, they have gotten the biggest response we’ve ever had to any activity we’ve ever done in all the years this site has been operating,” she said.

A similar event earlier this year saw Agero associates donate backpacks loaded with back-to-school supplies to the Soup Kitchen Community Centre.

The goal for that challenge was set at 30 backpacks. But when all was said and done, the teams had more than doubled that, Alexander said.

For the Holiday Smile Sock Challenge, she was hoping to collect 30-35 stockings to donate. But due to the overwhelming response, she estimates there will be 50 or more by the time the challenge is complete.

“The thing that makes this so special is it’s purely on the associates and employees to provide the items, and they work together as a team to make their stockings,” she explained. “All the teams are doing it, and it’s a nice way for the teams to feel like they’re giving back to the community. It’s nice for the kids and it stays within the community which is a draw for the associates.”

The Agero Holiday Smile Sock Challenge wraps up on Friday, Dec. 9 when the stockings are delivered to the Christmas Cheer depot on Second Line West.
