SAULT STE. MARIE - Searchmont Ski Resort will be even more user-friendly this weekend. After a six-year hiatus, the four-person Quad chairlift is set to reopen on Saturday.

“With the weather cooperating, and now with the Quad starting up again, this is a very exciting time for the resort,” said general manager Colin Wilson. “The Quad lift provides additional access to the mountain, which adds to the Searchmont experience and makes an already great season even better.”

The updates to the Quad lift were made possible with funding from senior levels of government, along with a generous donation from Floreani O’Toole and Dool Orthodontists.

“Everyone came together to make this happen,” said Kristy Rachowski, president of Searchmont Ski Association, the non-profit organization that operates the resort. “We thank our funding partners – FedNor and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund – along with our landlord, the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation, and Floreani O’Toole and Dool Orthodontists for their continued support.”

A longtime supporter of Searchmont Ski Resort, Floreani O’Toole and Dool Orthodontists continued its tradition with a donation of $25,000 towards this project. The funds will help cover the ongoing operating costs of the Quad lift.

“As we celebrate our 25 years of serving the community, we want to spread smiles beyond our practice,” said Dr. Kent Floreani. “We all missed the Quad, especially the kids, and we are proud to be part of ensuring it operates into the future.”

The Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation purchased Searchmont Ski Resort in December 2014. The acquisition was required to ensure the tourist attraction and quality-of-life generator continued to operate. As the owner of the resort, the organization is able to take advantage of significant amounts of capital improvement funding from FedNor and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund.
